The Ant and the Cricket
The poem brings out the importance of hard work. The cricket is young and silly. The cricket enjoyed singing in warm weather of spring and summer. The cricket did not save any food or grains for the winter. During the winter season, the ground was covered with snow. He could not find any trace of food or grains on the ground. The cricket wanted to meet a miserly ant to borrow food or grains from it. The cricket assured if the ant granted food and shelter, he would return it in future. The ants work hard and plan for the future and so they neither borrow nor lend. The ant could not tolerate the laziness of the cricket. The ant angrily told the cricket to sing and dance in the winter too. The poet indicates that some human beings are also lazy and behave like the cricket.
