An accident occurred when doctor Christian Bernard and his wife were crossing the road after a lovely dinner. Doctor Barnard had 11 broken ribs and a perforated lungs. His wife had a badly fractured shoulder. Doctor Barnard did not see anything noble in agony. There are patients waiting for doctor Barnard to operate on them. His wife had a young baby who needed her care. Once he visited Cape town's Red Cross children's Hospital. There were two boys who took up the roles of a driver and a mechanic of the unattended food trolley. The mechanic who was totally blind was galloping around behind the trolley. The driver who had only one arm steered the trolley by scrapping his foot on the floor. The rest of the patients encouraged them by their laughter and shouts of encouragement. Doctor Barnard compares this entertainment to ‘Grand Prix’. This incident helped him to perceive a new dimension of life. The joy of living is the most important in the world. What we have last is not important but what we have left is important. This was a profound lesson that doctor Bernard learnt from the two boy
