Forgetting
- Robert Lynd
Lynd actually wonders
at the great efficiency of human memory. Telephone numbers, addresses of friends, names of actors and climatic conditions are the things that a person remembers
easily. According to psychologists, human beings forget what they don't want to
remember like taking pills. According to Lynd, forgetting to post the letter is
the most common type of forgetfulness. The writer forgets books umbrellas and
walking sticks most often. The minds of sportspersons are filled with the vision of
playing field. Absent mindedness is common among the angler and the poet. They
are imaginative people. A list of articles lost by train travellers astonished
many readers because the lost articles belong to the young rather than the
adult. Once a man took his baby in a pram and went into a pub leaving the
baby outside. By chance, his wife saw her sleeping baby in the pram
and took it with her home. She expected that her husband would come in panic. But
he had completely forgotten and asked about lunch.
