Prose-4   “The Summit”

1. What did Hillary do with his wet boots?

Hillary heated the wet boots over the flame of the Primus and softened them.

Oxygen gear set is an equipment and ice-axe is a tool carried by the climbers.  

3. Why did Hillary become clumsy- fingered and slow-moving?

Hillary become clumsy- fingered and slow-moving because the oxygen set was exhausted.

4. What did Hillary find in a tiny hollow?

Hillary found two oxygen bottles in a tiny hollow.

5. When did Hillary feel a sense of freedom and well-being?

 Their oxygen apparatus was lighter as he cut his next steps down off the South summit.

6. What did Hillary mean by saying “We had had enough to do the job, but by no means too much”?

They had enough oxygen to reach the summit and return back but it was not more than that.

7. How did the mountaineers belay?

The mountaineers tied a rope to a shaft, which was fixed hard in the snow. They will crawl holding the rope.

Time was passing and the ridge of Mount Everest seemed never ending. So their original zest was fading away.

 Hillary cut a line of steps down to where the snow met the rocks on the west.

II. Paragraph
