Hamel would ask question on participles.

When people are enslaved, if they hold their language, it is the key to prison.

Village people, old Hauser, former mayor, former post master

 

13.  Why did Mr. Hamel say it was the last French lesson?

The order came from Berlin to teach only German in schools.

 

14.  What was Franz asked to tell? Was he able to answer?

The rules of participles. He was not able to answer.

 

15.  Why did Mr.Hamel blame himself?

Franz was made to water flowers. Hamel gave holiday to Franz when Hamel went for fishing.

 

16.  What did M. Hamel say about the French language?

French was the most beautiful, the clearest and most logical language.

 

17. How many years had M. Hamel been in the village?
